Current Needs

Seed Money

Right now the biggest need is to raise money to support me while I get everything that is in my head down on paper and here in the blog.  I need time to meet with leaders in the community, get a Board together and do all the things to make this dream become a reality.  Working on The Sewing Project takes me away from my other venues which bring in income to pay my daily bills.  If you like the concept I am outlining here, then back it with your $$, helping make it reality.

Ways that you can sponsor The Sewing Project:

  • Purchase a sponsor ad.
  • Donate any amount using the Pay Pal button on the top of the right sidebar of this blog.  If you would like your donation to be made public, let me know and I will post a public thank you here on the blog.
  • Shop from my Etsy shop.  It all goes into the same pot for now.
  • Become a corporate sponsor.
The Sewing Project has been endorsed by Brother Gregory Waldrop, pastor of the Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church, just two blocks from where I live.   They are committed to incorporate the arts in the life of their church and have a long history of meeting the physical needs of their community, as well as the spiritual ones.  Brother Gregory's involvement in The Sewing Project is key to its success.  As we move forward in structuring the project, my hope is that the church will serve as the umbrella organization until we have our own not-for-profit status in place.

Sponsor Ads:

There are two ads which can be purchased to support this project, the banner ad and sidebar ad.

Banner Ad:  This one goes on top of the blog posts, smack in the center of the page and have the highest immediate visibility.  See sample.
$500 for six months.
Size:  425 pixels wide by 85 pixels high.

Sidebar Ad:  These ads are placed at the top of the left sidebar.
$100 for six months.
Size:  150 pixels square.

Disclaimers:   I reserve the right to move the banner ads to the bottom of the page if there are more than five banner ads.  The newest ones will show at the top and stay there as long as there are five ads.  I am also subject to board directives once we have an active one.  Any major changes will be brought to our sponsors.

Corporate sponsors:

Sponsors donating more than $1,000 towards The Sewing Project will be called Corporate Sponsors for now.  They will have priority visibility on the blog and will be listed as sponsors on any other media used to promote the project.  The language used and how sponsors are rewarded will also be subject to board approval once we have one.

There is always a catch-22 in implementing new ideas.  Lack of funding kills most of them as soon as they are born.  I believe that this is the right time and place for The Sewing Project to emerge as one of the "good ideas that made it".  My commitment to making this an open project means that it offers benefits to those outside of our immediate community who can use our learning process to shape their own projects or interests.

Future Needs:

One of the core values I want to see happen in The Sewing Project is a commitment towards green practices.  Our products will use donated supplies as much as possible and we will look at how we can incorporate "trash" into our designs.  We also want to give the participants of the program the tools that they need to practice what they learn at home.  Each should have their own sewing  machine, computer, and printer.  This means that when the program is launched, we will be looking for donations of fabric, thread, sewing machines, computers, printers and other supplies.

I am hoping to launch The Sewing Project in August of 2011.  If you have these kinds of things that you are thinking of purging from your home or business, hold on to them for awhile until we have a site.

Please feel free to leave comments and questions on this page about funding and supplies.  I will answer on this blog so that others can benefit from the Q&A.  If you would like to receive comments and replies to future activity on this page, make sure to check the box for emails when you leave a comment.
